A Political Fall: The Rise and Fall of Governor Kawira Mwangaza

Image
My heart goes out to the former Meru Governor, Hon. Kawira Mwangaza, who faced an untimely and unfortunate impeachment in the wee hours of 12:00 a.m. yesterday. It is almost as if the timing was meant to add insult to injury, as though her political opponents couldn’t wait to see her fall from grace. Being a woman in the male-dominated political landscape of Kenya, Kawira always had the odds stacked against her, especially after she emerged victorious against a Meru political giant in 2022. This wasn’t just her first rodeo with the Senate; it was her third impeachment hearing, having narrowly escaped the noose twice before. But this time, her political rope frayed under the weight of charges that, frankly, seem weaker than a cup of tea made with a used teabag.   The grounds for her impeachment, gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct, and abuse of office, read like a list of sins conjured up in a hurry by an eager prosecutor. Violating the Constitution by di...

Impeachment Rumors: A Desperate Attempt to Silence Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

Image
Lately, there have been rumblings about impeaching Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. But let's get real—who's behind these calls, and what exactly are they trying to achieve? The timing is suspicious, coming right after the opposition joined the government. It raises a plethora of questions. Are there hidden agendas at play? If these individuals are serious about impeachment, they should act quickly! The nation deserves to know where President Ruto stands regarding his loyal deputy and the commitments made during their campaign. This talk of impeachment appears to be a tactic by certain factions within the government to stifle Deputy President Gachagua’s advocacy for the interests of the Mt. Kenya region. Let me make it clear, FIGHTING FOR THE REGION DOESN’T EQUATE TO NEGLECTING THE REST OF THE COUNTRY . The Deputy President’s dedication to Mt. Kenya is about ensuring fair representation and opportunities, not fostering division. Those pushing for his impeachment seem thre...

The Indomitable Spirit of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Fight Against Illicit Brew

Image
When Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua takes the stage, be it in churches, public forums, or any gathering, there’s one battle he fights with unwavering passion: the war against illicit brew. This isn’t just a talking point for him; it’s a mission close to his heart, a crusade to protect the lives and futures of countless Kenyans. Two years ago, as the current government came to power in 2022, the pervasive menace of illicit brew was a dark cloud hanging over the nation, especially in the Mt. Kenya region. Illicit alcohol was everywhere, wreaking havoc on families and communities. When President Ruto handed the reins of this daunting task to Deputy President Gachagua, many scoffed, including seasoned political analysts. They called it a suicide mission, pointing to the powerful and wealthy mafias behind these dangerous products. The risk to Gachagua’s political career was immense; taking on these formidable foes was akin to walking a tightrope over a pit of vipers. But Gachagua isn’t j...

The Current Culture in Kenyan Economy

Image
I was going through my Twitter this evening; I found certain things that caught me thinking all day. A random Twitter user named Dendricck did a poll on Twitter asking Kenyans what they would do with a stable source of income. From the poll, a total of 545 votes were cast, and the following are the outcomes; a.       Take a loan and buy land – 13% b.       Save in saccos – 21% c.       Invest in markets – 28% d.       Start up a side hustle – 38% So I took some time to think about it. If I used this as a sample to represent the entire country's population, there is so much to read about the current state of the economy and how it has changed our culture as Kenyans. This is how I concluded from the poll; a.       The fact that 38% of respondents expressed their intention to start a side hustle indicates a strong entrepreneurial culture in Kenya. This ...

The FKF National Super League Ultimate conclusion

Image
Today will be the last matchday in the FKF National Super League 2022/2023 season. The season has been one of the most exciting seasons in the competition's history. The league kicked off on November 26, 2022. The competition saw 19 clubs prepared to battle out for the championships for the season. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, two teams did not participate in the campaign, Fortune Sacco Fc and APS Bomet Fc. It has been a pleasure to watch exemplary talents across the country contribute to the progressive quest to improve the standards of Kenyan men's football. The remaining 17 teams battled out throughout the season through 31 match days. The NSL has attracted massive attention from football lovers, especially from top-flight teams, such as Shabana Fc and Murang'a Seals Fc, which have attracted many supporters. It's a joy to see Kenyan Football growing at such a speed. Today, the 8th of July 2023, is the climax of NSL this season. The two top-flight te...

Kenya Kwanza Government's Decision to Lift the Tree Cutting Ban. A Step Towards Progress or a Cause for Concern?

In a recent announcement, the Kenya Kwanza Government, led by President William Ruto, declared the lifting of the ban on cutting down trees. While this decision has stirred up various opinions, it is crucial to analyze the potential benefits and consider the possible repercussions of such a move. Yesterday in the news, I saw many environmentalists cursing the government's decision to lift the ban. They spoke passionately against the decision and attained so much attention from the media, leaving me thinking about it. As an economist, you obviously know that I will support the president on this because of the following benefits. a.       The decision to lift the tree-cutting ban can be seen as a proactive measure to stimulate economic growth. The government aims to generate employment opportunities and boost the country's economy by allowing industries such as logging and timber to thrive. b.       The claim that trees are rot...
